Veneers procedure in Hampstead, North London

Why choose Dental Perfection for your veneers procedure?

Dental veneers are extremely effective in improving the appearance of broken, crowded, cracked or discoloured teeth. If your teeth are bringing you down, getting veneers can provide you with a natural looking, flawless new smile. You can find out more about what veneers are if you want more details.

Even knowing the incredible results that can be achieved, some patients are still nervous in the run up to their veneers procedure. It is an extremely safe treatment and is an everyday routine procedure for our highly skilled and qualified dental team.

At Dental Perfection, we will do everything we can to put you at ease before, during, and after your veneer surgery at our Hampstead practice.

You’ll be able to ask any veneers questions you may have about the veneers procedure at your consultation, and benefit from continued outpatient support following any dental treatment you choose to have with us.

If desirable, we often show the results of the final ceramic veneers to the patient by creating a wax design of the final look which is then transferred to the mouth using removable plastic veneers. This is called a “mock up” and will provide the specialist and patient with a very good idea of what the end result will look like and give the patient the reassurances needed prior to committing to treatment. You can also view our before and after photos of veneers for patients that we have helped.

The veneers process only takes a few visits to the dentist; making it a relatively quick and easy way to reimagine your smile. These appointments will of course include:

  • Your initial consultation
  • Treatment planning
  • Booking in all necessary appointments
  • Laboratory shade taking with our ceramic technicians
  • Tooth preparation
  • Impressions of the teeth
  • Making temporaries
  • Assessing the temporaries for ideal shape and contour
  • Trying on the final ceramic veneers
  • Seeking the patients approval
  • The bonding session

You may also be asked to come in for a follow up appointment a few weeks after your veneers procedure.

Preparation for your veneers procedure in Hampstead, North London

If you have already had your consultation with your Dental Perfection practitioner, and have decided on getting veneers, you may have been invited back to our surgery in Hampstead for the second step of the veneers process.

This involves preparing your teeth for having veneers fitted. To do this, your dentist will gently remove a thin layer of enamel from the front of the teeth receiving treatment. You can discuss with your dentist during your consultation whether you would prefer to have local anesthetic for this step of the veneers procedure.

They will take no more than half a millimeter of enamel, which is equal to the thickness of the porcelain veneer that will be added later. This is so the veneers do not protrude further than your natural teeth within your gum line, giving you a perfectly even smile. If your aesthetic goal is to broaden your smile and make your teeth more prominent, your teeth will require almost no preparation as space for the veneers will already be available.

Once this is finished, the next step of the veneers procedure involves taking an impression of the teeth being treated. This mold will be sent off to a dental laboratory where your custom porcelain veneers will be created by our ceramist.

It usually takes around two weeks for your finished veneers to be sent back to your dentist. In the meantime, we will fit you will temporary veneers to both hide the appearance of your teeth mid-treatment, and to keep your teeth protected from sensitivity.

These temporary veneers are not permanently fixed to your teeth and are easily damaged, so you’ll need to take care with what you do and eat until your next visit.

Bonding your veneers

This is the most exciting part of the veneers procedure – seeing your new teeth for the first time!

Once your dentist has received your bespoke veneers from the lab, you’ll be called back into the Hampstead surgery to have your new porcelain veneers bonded to your teeth.

Before they are cemented permanently, we will first place them temporarily to make sure its fit and colour are just right. Your dentist will then begin removing and trimming the veneer to ensure it fits perfectly with the width of your natural tooth, and even adjust the tooth colour to match your existing set by choosing a suitable shade of cement.

When getting your veneers fitted at our North London clinic, your tooth will also be cleaned, polished and etched. This makes the tooth surface rough and textured to ensure a stronger bond, which is a vital step in the veneers process to ensure longevity.

A dental cement glue will then be brushed onto your veneer, so that it can be permanently placed over your tooth. Your dentist will then make miniscule adjustments to ensure the veneer is perfectly positioned, then apply a special light beam to activate the quick-drying chemicals within the glue.

This makes the cement harden, bonding the veneer to your tooth. For the final step of your veneers procedure, your dentist will clean up any cement left over, check your new bite, and make any final changes you may need.

Then, you can start enjoying your new veneers!

Of course, you may be asked to come in for a follow up appointment after a couple of weeks to check that the veneer has stayed in place, how your gums have responded to the veneer, as well as the edges and your bite. But other than that, you can start enjoying your new smile right away.
